Melanie Batts is the founder and owner of Batts Legal Solutions, a Kansas City–based law firm focused on helping individuals and families plan for the future with clarity, confidence, and peace of mind. Her practice is built on a simple but powerful mission: to help clients protect what matters most—their loved ones, their assets, and their legacy.
Melanie is passionate about estate planning because she understands that thoughtful planning today can prevent confusion, conflict, and unnecessary hardship tomorrow. She works closely with clients to design personalized plans that reflect their values and goals, whether that means drafting a comprehensive trust, preparing a will, establishing powers of attorney, or recording beneficiary deeds to ensure assets pass smoothly and efficiently. Melanie believes estate planning is not just about documents—it is about empowering families with certainty and control during life’s most important moments.
Melanie earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University and her Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law. During law school, she developed a strong foundation in trusts, estates, and taxation through advanced coursework and experience in the practice of law, a Trust Drafting course, and hands-on experience in the UMKC Tax Clinic. She also completed a legal internship at Dysart Taylor, where she conducted research and assisted with matters involving estate planning, guardianships, and complex legal analysis. Melanie gained extensive experience at the Quitmeier Law Firm, where she expanded her experience in estate planning and family-centered legal solutions.
At Batts Legal Solutions, Melanie’s practice focuses on estate planning services including trust drafting, will preparation, powers of attorney, beneficiary deeds, and related planning tools designed to protect clients during incapacity and preserve wealth for future generations. Clients value her clear communication, attention to detail, and practical approach. Melanie takes the time to educate clients, answer questions, and ensure they leave with a plan they truly understand and trust.
Outside of her legal practice, Melanie is a devoted mother of five and an active volunteer in her church and local community. She and her husband also own a small business in Kansas City, reflecting her entrepreneurial spirit and deep appreciation for the challenges families and business owners face. Guided by faith, integrity, and service, Melanie is committed to helping clients build secure futures and lasting legacies with confidence and care.
